Last Shades of Fall
A hazy winter day. The last of the tree’s have changed color and are dropping leaves. A looser impressionist style for me. I’d had enjoyed it more using heavier paper I think. 9×12 Watercolor on Canson 90lb paper. I like the arches rag paper better, this was like painting on tissue, felt like the paper was going to come off with each brush stroke yuck.
This painting actually came about after a phone conversation with my mom. She loves trees and I had to date painted one tree, landscape is difficult for me. I wanted to paint a tree for her though and this is what I ended up with and deemed it not worthy for gifting I’d try doing another on heavier paper. I posted it here, it’s good to look back at work and see how you progress over time. She saw the painting and asked if she could buy it for a gift for dad. I told her it wasn’t for sale lol. So it was ironically funny that she asked to purchase as a gift a painting that was inspired and intended to be gifted to her, but I wanted to send something better when I could paint better. This painting is with my parents halfway across the country now
