The Myth: Soy candles or waxes are organic. The Facts: You see it in many places. Misrepresentation of a product due to either wrong information lack of research of what Organic is, or blatant deceit to attract a certain market. Going “green” is the fad. As an Indie business it’s important you know exactly what you sell. That means research, lots and lots of it. If you want to be taken seriously, if you are sincere about what your product contains make sure you know what your supplies actually are. Soy beans and the oil they produce can be organic. The wax made from this oil however, is not. It is chemically altered to turn it from a liquid to solid state. What? But the supplier said they get their soy beans from certified organic growers. They more than likely did. The soybeans can be certified organic, however once it is processed into wax it no longer meets requirements. Soy wax cannot be certified organic. Now, if you add organic essential oils that does not make your entire candle organic. An honest description of your candles would be: “Made from 100% natural soy wax with organic essential oils” or “Soy [...]

We use organic ingredients and organic compliant ingredients. Our sea salts are not listed as organic because the USDA provides no organic certification for salt in the United States. The USDA classifies salt as only a mineral – not a living thing with carbon compounds and the like. They are all natural and the process through which the salt is acquired allows it to be organic compliant, not changing or altering the end product that contains organic materials. Our essential oils and botanicals are from small indie business who are or have organic certified suppliers that are regulated and toured and/or fair trade. We know where every supply we use comes from. Our fragrance oils are not organic, they are synthetic but they are phthalate free and not listed as cancer causing agents. They are approved and safe for bath and body use. We use Pacific Sea Salts, Himalayan Pink Sea Salts and Dead Sea Salts in many of our bath bombs. Ingredients are listed so you know which salt has been used. Salt is a natural water softener and when used in bathing can moisturize and relieve minor aches. Corn starch when added also acts as a softening agent, [...]

I absolutely love to draw characters with huge personality. There are so many great ones to choose from. Tim Curry is one of my favorite actors. Some of you may be wondering, “Who is this guy?” If it’s even remotely possible anyone does not know who Dr. Frank-N-Furter is, I’ll give you a hint and link. This is a character from cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now I don’t just draw something because it’s got personality. There is always some great memory attached to that character. For instance the Gollum drawing, great character & memory of first book I read. I first saw Rocky Horror Picture Show in Orange County, CA at the age of 12. My mother and my uncle took myself and my sister to see it. I remember sitting there thinking this was the weirdest, scariest event I’d seen. People throwing rice, toilet paper, dancing in the aisles, dressed up like the characters. It [...]

I know what my family and I like when it comes to colors, fragrances and soaps. The tastes all vary between us. So what do you like? What generally is a decision factor purchasing candles or soap? What are your favorite types of scents for candles? Fruity, floral, musk, bakery? Do you prefer colored soy candles or dye free but scented? Do you have a favorite fragrance you prefer? What are you favorite soaps? Castile, Shea, Aloe, Goat’s Milk? Mine are fruity, some florals and nearly all essential oil types. Bite Me (smells like grape kool-aid) and White Tea & Ginger types. Dye free and scented for me! For soaps I love Goat’s milk and Shea butter, rustic loaf cut bars. feedback
